Another camper. I have been wanting to build one of these for years, now that there’s the Camping theme I took the opportunity. Now this was really a labour of love because in my childhood our family used to travel across Europe in such a vehicle – with 65 horsepower from a tiny V4 engine.

We and everybody we met loved the van very much – the colour combo was intriguing, it had this chrome signs saying „Custom“ at the sides, some nice US-style chrome hubcaps and a mock-wood rear.

Scale is quite exact. The size of the body is between 7w and 8w, however there needs to be a visual difference towards larger US style alcove motorhomes which would have a 7/8w setup. Rear-view mirrors are possible, however the only proper solution I could come up with are 1×2 tiles which are a bit large. I omitted them for now.

Credits: There are already quite a few nice Ford Transits Mk1 out there, thus its difficult to develop a completely new approach. I would have loved just to take one of Johnni’s fine Transits (see e. g. www.flickr.com/photos/johnnid/44897236954/) as is and just put a motorhome body onto it, However the whole thing would have become much too tall with the alcove on top, I had to set down everything as much as possible. I did use some major design features though.

A second major inspiration was what is probably the original version of all further „side tile“ Lego Mk1 Transits: Ben Beneke’s model from 2005 (see www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1433127).

100% Lego. Thanks for watching!
